COLLABORATIVE CALLS

The European Commission has several collaborative grant calls within its Horizon Europe funding programme for research and innovation based on EU’s policy priorities. Some of these programmes that focus on technological and business innovations are Research and innovation action (RIA) –including EIC Pathfinder and EIC Transition – and Innovation action (IA).

Research and innovation action (RIA) that establishes new knowledge or explores a new or improved technology, product, process, service or solution. The EU funding covers up to 100% of the project costs.

EIC Pathfinder scheme supports the exploration of bold ideas for radically new technologies. It welcomes the high-risk/high gain and interdisciplinary cutting-edge science collaborations that underpin technological breakthroughs. The grant supports early-stage development of future technologies, up to proof of concept. The EU funding covers up to 100% of the project costs.

EIC Transition funds innovation activities that go beyond the experimental proof of principle in laboratory to support the maturation and validation of a novel technology in the lab and in relevant application environments and the development of a business case and model towards the innovation’s future commercialisation. The EU funding covers up to 100% of the project costs.

Innovation action (IA) that produces plans or designs for new or improved products, processes or services including prototyping, testing, demonstrating, piloting, large-scale product validation and market replication. The EU funding covers up to 70% of the project costs.
